Databases - DataPumps
Datapumps convert a database from one type to another,
or from one version to another.
In general, this never works very well.
These are some of the differences
- Field types
- Table and field naming rules
- Autoincrement fields
- Indexes
- Reserved names
- The way constraints are defined
- The ability to have stored procedures and triggers
- The stored procedure language
As a result, datapumps only do part of the job
The datapump that comes with Interbase 5 has a great user interface,
but it can not produce a final report or save the configuration.
The
Interbase Datapump
is more difficult to use,
but it produces sql files that you can review, edit, and archive.
