Opening Files
When you are in an Editor or Browser, the File/Open... menu selection
provides a standard and logical function.
However, when you are selecting files from a directory list,
the term open is meaningess. What moron ...
For example,
- exe files are programs that are executed
- txt files are ASCII text files that open in notepad
- html files are displayed in one of the browsers
- bat files are ASCII text and can be edited, but they are executed
- For other extensions, who knows?
What gibberish!
Someone must have thought "If you can make it more user hostile ... go for it!"
By hacking the registry, which MS warns that you should never do,
you can assign meaningful descriptions to these menu selections.
For programs, I suggest Execute Program.
For data files, I suggest [Open | Browse | Edit | ...] in <application name>
such as Edit in Notepad
