Opening Files With Multiple Applications
If you Open an html file, do you get Netscape
or IE or FrontPage or Notepad or ...?
As though this wasn't bad enough, the 2 main browsers
steal this association from each other without any thought
as to what the user wants.
These children need timeout in their rooms ...
or more powerful explosives. You decide.
The better approach is to provide multiple
logically worded options, such as
- Browse in Netscape 3.0
- Browse in Netscape 4.0
- Edit in Notepad
- Edit in Fronpage
- Browse in IE
Notice that you can provide different versions of
Netscape (which greatly simplifies testing your pages),
but only one version of IE
(obviously a good decision :).
htm/html file associations on various machines
- Corel Netscape Hypertext Document
- Internet Document (HTML)
- HTML Document
