Other IE 4.40 unique problems discovered
while investigating this include
- border=1 is ignored in <table border=1>
(not in above table)
- <center> tags can not be used in the table cells
- <b> (bold) tags in table cells must be closed
- It appears that the number of un-closed <center>
tags is kept in a stack and an equal number
of </center> tags is required to disable centering
of the rest of the page.
(Netscape Communicator 4.01a does this with
<center> tags which are not in tables.)
Most of these are direct violations of the html specs (guidelines).
The bottom line is simple - IE 4.40 is trash. Don't use it. Ever.
