February 23, 2013 Sat 9-2 or so	Field Trip: Mineralogy Laboratories and Museum, James Madison University (JMU) They have one of the best mineral museums in the state. In the morning, we will use the stereo microscopes to view specimens. After a lunch break (normally at a pizza place), we plan to visit the “microprobe” and scanning electron microscope laboratory. Geologists use these to determine the chemical makeup of unknown minerals and to take closeup photos of the minute crystals.
